The Biology Tutor has devised the following set of guidelines specifically for virtual sessions. This policy should be read in association with the Privacy Policy. Online safety is of the utmost importance during these sessions. All participants are asked to acknowledge they have read this policy on application.
We have put several measures in place which aim to limit risk and keep everyone safe when they are taking part in activities online. It is important that all participants bear in mind that no totally secure online meeting platforms currently exist. Whilst we will take all reasonable steps to operate the selected platforms securely, participation is at your own risk and The Biology Tutor can accept no liability for any detriment or harm resulting through use of the selected platform.
When using the Zoom platform, we will:
- Do our utmost to ensure admittance to Zoom sessions is for school age students only, through providing meeting IDs with password protection that can only be accessed by users logged in to our learning platform.
- Ensure that any recordings of sessions are stored securely in accordance with the data protection protocols we operate. Recordings are made available on the learning platform for one week following the webinar.
- Ensure participants are aware they can keep their camera switched off for the duration of any sessions.
- Disable screen sharing for participants and disable the participant to participant private chat function.
We ask you, as a participant, to:
- Use your first name only in group sessions and do not share contact details in any form with other participants.
- Familiarise yourself with the video and microphone functions, so that you can switch them on or off, as you wish.
- Ensure you are fully dressed, wearing appropriate daytime clothing which is suitable for being in a live learning environment.
- Choose an appropriate background environment.
- Use language that is professional and appropriate.
- Refrain from recording webinars.
- Refrain from downloading webinar recordings from our learning platform.
If during a virtual session any safeguarding concern arises, we will respond in accordance with the procedures and protocols set out in our Safeguarding Policy. We will strive to ensure that our response takes the needs of the person experiencing abuse, any bystanders and our organisation into account.
We review this guidance at regular intervals and participate in safeguarding and child protection training on a regular basis. If you have any concerns about online safety, please do not hesitate to email
[email protected].
